I did a lot of research when I believed I needed a second hip replacement, as my first replacement left me with a leg length difference, and recovery took months and months. This led me to Mr Symes who carries out replacements using the SPAIRE approach, which moves the muscles and tendons rather than cutting them. Mr Symes explained everything and answered all my questions. He was confident and put me at ease. My hip replacement using the SPAIRE approach was amazing!! The recovery was so quick, with no restrictions. I was swimming within three weeks. There was no feeling like I was sat on a tennis ball. Mr Symes corrected my leg length discrepancy. I can’t thank Mr Symes enough, and would definitely recommend him.

From the initial consultation the whole procedure was explained clearly by Mr Symes. I fully understood the procedure and after the anticipation and anxiety prior to the operation I was happy and comfortable for the operation to go ahead. The results were fantastic, less pain than I expected initially from the operation and after 4 weeks was walking without sticks, totally unaided and without hip pain, thank you so much.

Excellent patient care from start to finish. My hip replacement has given me the chance to really enjoy my retirement to the full and I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Symes as the go to surgeon for this procedure, and the Spire Hull as the place to have this undertaken.

As an active, competitive person, having hip arthritis leaving me unable to walk much further than to my car, was very hard. When it came to the end, I was referred to Mr. Tom Symes at The Spire in Hessle. Tom both reassured me and inspired me with a professional, grounded and flawlessly delivered prognosis. Double hip replacement. I was granted confidence at every stage of the process. What Mr. Symes gave me was the foundation to get my life back on track in ways I hadn’t imagined. I rehabbed hard and fully. One year later I am the best I’ve been in four years. I have my life back at 54. From start to finish, with guidance from physio, and the superb SPAIRE technique, I returned to work five weeks later, full recovery I would say took eight months although some fourteen months later I’m still improving. I cannot hesitate to recommend his services.
